What to Expect From a Mobile Roof Lining Repair

Having someone repair your car's roof lining in your driveway or at your workplace is convenient, but it helps to know how it works. This guide walks through the process from the first phone call to the finished job, and how to prepare.

Step 1: The call and the quote

When you contact us, we ask a few questions so that we can quote accurately:

  • The make, model and year of your vehicle.
  • Whether the car has a sunroof, a DVD player or other roof fittings.
  • What the roof lining is doing: drooping in one area, coming down across the whole roof, stained or damp.
  • Your suburb, so we can confirm we service your area.

Quotes are free. Sunroofs, larger vehicles and damaged boards can change the price and the time, so the more you tell us, the more accurate the quote.

Step 2: Booking a time and place

We agree on a date, a time window and the address. We service Brisbane Northside, Brisbane Southside, Ipswich and the Gold Coast, coming to your home or workplace. If you prefer, you can bring the vehicle to our upholstery shop at 59 Lobb Street, Churchill, where roof linings can be cheaper.

Step 3: Preparing your car and space

  1. Clear the car. Take out valuables, child seats and loose items, especially in the back where we need to work.
  2. Make room. We need to park close to the car and open the doors fully.
  3. Pick a shaded spot if you can. A covered or shaded area is more comfortable and better for adhesives, though it is not essential.
  4. Tell us about leaks. If the roof has leaked or the lining is stained, let us know so that we can check the likely cause.

Step 4: Inspection

Before work begins we check the condition of the lining and the board behind it. Most roof linings are fabric on foam on a board, and the foam is what usually fails. If the board is in good shape it can be re-covered. If it is cracked, warped or water-damaged, we explain the options and any change to the price before going ahead.

Step 5: The repair

  1. Trim and fittings around the lining, such as handles, lights and sun visors, are removed carefully.
  2. The lining is released from the roof and taken out of the car. On vehicles with sunroofs or other fittings, this takes extra care.
  3. The old fabric and failed foam are removed from the board and the board is prepared.
  4. New fabric is bonded to the board with a suitable adhesive.
  5. The lining is refitted and the trim and fittings are put back.

We advertise about an hour for a typical job. Larger vehicles, sunroofs and extra fittings can take longer, and we will tell you if so. While we work you can stay at home or in the office.

Step 6: Check, payment and warranty

We check the finished lining with you. If you are happy, you pay as agreed. Every job comes with a 5 year warranty, and your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply as well.

After the repair

  • Allow the adhesive to settle. Avoid pressing or rubbing the new lining until you have checked with us how long the adhesive needs for your car.
  • Protect the new lining from heat by parking in the shade and using a windscreen shade. See protect your car interior from Queensland heat.
  • Keep an eye on any roof leaks.

Questions to ask any roof lining repairer

  2. What adhesive do you use, and is it suitable for high heat?
  3. Is there a written warranty, and what does it cover?
  4. What happens if the board is damaged?
  5. Can you work on sunroof vehicles?
